Zach Birmingham

Senior Environmental Specialist at Port of San Diego

Zach Birmingham is a Senior Environmental Specialist with the Port of San Diego’s Energy Team. He started with the Port in 2011 as an Intern, and has worked with the Port’s Commissioners and Executive Leadership Group providing research and professional staffing support related to maritime, environmental, and international trade topics. Since 2014, Zach has worked on Cleantech and Smart City initiatives at the Port to incorporate real time data into the organization’s decision making framework. Zach is currently the Port’s project manager for the initial deployment of 23 CityIQ sensor nodes in partnership with Current Powered by GE, which will use real time data to better manage roadways and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. He obtained his B.A. in Global Studies and Maritime Affairs from California State University, Maritime Academy, and a Master’s Degree in International Affairs from the School of Global Policy and Strategy at the University of California San Diego
